B-SCI addresses Roe v. Wade Overturning
B-SCI is outraged by the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. First, this decision takes away a woman's right to autonomy over her own body. Second, the language used in the concurring opinion potentially threatens the rights and health of members of the LGBTQIA community. It also uses language that casts the rights to contraception practices and marital privacy in doubt in the future. Third, the language used to justify this decision disrespectfully compares this heinous decision to the overturning of Plessy v. Ferguson, in which the Supreme Court determined that the original decision of “separate but equal” was unconstitutional. B-SCI is a science nonprofit, however, this decision threatens the health of millions of U.S. citizens and it will likely have an immeasurable impact on the Black and underrepresented communities B-SCI has vowed to serve. B-SCI will continuously seek to support, align, and organize with organizations and individuals who support fighting for the rights of women and the LGBTQIA community–for the good of all humanity and science.
